This Summer’s Hottest Jewellry Trends

As any fashionable lady knows, jewellry plays a significant role in the creation of a look or outfit. By simply adding an embellished necklace or dramatic earrings, you can transform something as bland as a t-shirt and jeans into a look fit for any of fashion’s elite. This year’s jewellry trends center on ostentatious, and often flamboyant, pieces from by-gone eras. Additionally, this works for both the moneyed socialite and the fashionista on a budget.

Set Your Sights on Antiques

Antique or vintage items are timeless pieces that will remain in the jewellry box of any elegant, fashionable woman, no matter her age. Whether rummaging through your mother’s or grandmother’s jewelled goods or scouring thrift and vintage shops, you may be able to come across some unique finds that fit in with this year’s jewelry trend. If you’re not into antiquing or searching for the latest vintage wares, there are plenty of other ways you can obtain those vintage-inspired designs available from online retailers and at most trendy clothing shops. For a classic look, search for pieces that are gold, rustic, and contain intricate detailing antique gems. Even your engagement and wedding rings can be enhanced with an antique touch as many jewelers, such as 77 Diamonds, are allowing their customers to craft their own rings and are also being influenced by the antique ring look.

One of the biggest trends in vintage designs for 2013 is the sautoir necklace. Comprised of a long chain or beaded necklace, and often garnished with tassels from a detachable or longer, more ostentatious permanent pendant, this type of neckwear was initially introduced during the turn of the 19th century to replicate military braids or chains. In the early 1900′s, the sautoir became a fashionable jewelry accessory, particularly among flappers. Contemporary fashion houses, such as Chanel, have even crafted modern-day replicas of this design using lengthy strands of pearls and finishing embellishments such as rhinestones or Swarovski crystals linked together in a chain formation.

How to Spot Vintage Treasures

Many of us chic ladies often spent our younger days playing dress up with our mothers’ garments, make up, and jewelry for hours. Years later, some of us can still be found rummaging through grandma’s jewellry box and venturing to estate and yard sales near and far in search of unique, classic pieces. If you’re new to purchasing antique or vintage jewellry, or don’t have a massive amount of money to spend, start by checking out thrift and vintage stores that sell antique merchandise like the Salvation Army or Goodwill—two excellent, inexpensive places for vintage jewelry hunting. You can also find vintage pieces and antique-inspired designs from an assortment of online retailers and at most fashionable clothing shops. For a classic look, seek out pieces that are gold, rustic, contain intricate detailing, and gems. From outrageous, outlandish pieces, to simple, timeless items, vintage jewelry is an everla
sting trend that is sure to be popular now and in the upcoming seasons.
